Out Of Gas (2016)

It is undeniable how the car has shaped the environment of the United States and the way people experience the country. But many previously prospering places have been slowly dying as the Interstate Highway System now bypasses formerly more frequented towns and motorist infrastructure. While the road trip, car culture and American icons such as Route 66 are still an American staple, in reality the built-in obsolence of cars as part of consumer culture becomes increasingly visible.

“One of the major attractions of the road trip has become the fantasy of time travel. The open road leads back to what was, or at least to someplace where time passes more slowly.” - David Campany, The Open Road
